Dreamers
An essay about the poem called “Dreamers”

Have you ever wondered what soldiers think about when they are fighting? Well you find out in this poem called, “Dreamers”. When I read this poem I also get how much they miss their family. In this poem there is a lot of imagery of what the soldiers dream about and what they miss.

(TS) As I read the poem, “Dreamers” I think of what soldiers went through and what they still go through. (SD) This line of the poem really explains this, “And in the ruined trenches, lashed by rain.” (CM) This explains all of what those people go through because to have to stay in this muddy hole and stay there all day and try to fight for their life must be a very hard thing. (CM) When I read this sentence I get a picture in my head off all these people trying to stay alive in the poring rain and how horrible that must be. (SD) Another image that I get as I read this poem is how all the soldiers missed their lives back home. (CM) When the soldiers were in the trenches they probably thought about how much they missed their family and everything that they did with them. (CM) When I read this section I can really imagine how much they missed things back home, “Dreaming of things they did with balls and bats, And mocked by hopeless longing to regain Bank-holidays, and picture shows, and spats. In this section of the poem I get a strong picture of them thinking about all that. (CS) Just thinking for a few minutes about what the soldiers have done for us, and are still doing we should be even more appreciative then we are know.

(TS) When I think about the soldiers and how many things they must miss, it makes me think about what I would miss the most. (SD) One of the things that I know I would miss terribly would be my family. (CM) the line of the poem “They think of firelit homes, clean beds and wives.” Explains that the soldiers miss home. (CM) One of the reasons that I would miss my family is because I do so many things with them. (CM) When I am at a camp in the summer and I don’t come home for a while I miss my family a lot then, but if I new that I wouldn’t be home for a few years I would miss them terribly. (SD) Something else that I would miss would be all the things that I do in my spare time. (CM) I would miss what I do in my spare time because twenty-four seven you would be fighting and never have a vacation or a day off. (CM) The other thing that I would miss would be what I do on the weekends like the poem says, “Dreaming of things they did with balls and bats, […] Bank-holidays, and picture shows, and spats.” (CS) These would just be a few things that I would miss while I was gone.

From reading this poem over and over again, I think about a lot more things that I would miss, and especially the soldiers. I also realized how much they must miss all of the things we have everyday and how much they must miss there family. After thinking about soldiers more I realized how much they really do for us. I am sure that the soldiers must miss a lot more things than what is in the poem.
